Free Google Calls to US/Canada

I signed up for Google Voice last year during the beta but since it is US only I haven’t been able to use it. Now we have news this week of Google rolling out integrated VOIP calling into GMail. Tonight I’m able to have free calls to the US and Canada for the rest of 2010. I only tried a couple of calls but the quality as quite good. Now all I need is for Google Voice to open up to the rest of the world.

Who is a failure?

Everything that I had read said that Google had adjusted their algorithms to combat link bombs, also known as Google bombs. Turns out this may, or may not be the case.

Head on over to Google and search for the term “who is a failure?“. The #1 result should look like the photo below.

This story originally broke back in February. Perhaps this isn’t a true Google Bomb, and is just an unfortunate coincidence for Mr. Bush.

The Pinetree Line

I was checking out the top search results on Google for "Sioux Lookout" when I came across a site dedicated to the old Pinetree Line.  It was a series of radar sites setup in the early 50's by the US Airforce and later taken over by the Canadian Armed Forces.  It contains a number of old photos from the base and of the area around Sioux Lookout.  Check it out if you are interested in history or are from the area.

WordPress Plugin: Ad-Rotator

Ad-Rotator is simple, yet effective ad rotation plugin for WordPress written by Angsuman Chakraborty .  As is often the case with community written plugins, the technical docs on how to get the plugin to work are limited and somewhat confusing, specifically in regards to Google's Ad-sense program.  I was able to reach Angsuman via email and after a quick flurry of messages he was able to show me how to get Ad-Rotator working with a number of different affiliate programs, including Ad-sense.
